Poets in Essence | a poem by Astrid C.

Poets are by nature rather solitary-minded creatures.

They more than others are happily addicted to words,

Their various meanings and sentence interactions.

Some words can be lethal, usually used in tragic poems.

Witty or humorous words may regale our readers,

With laughter sliding into tears for centuries thereafter.

Of course all poets are different in their natures,

In temperament, disposition, character, and education,

Familial background, taste, and writing styles!

Like the Good Book says, “As a man thinks, so is he.”

How very true therefore one poet is not like any other.

However they may ponder, study or think on similar subjects.

But perspective will necessarily show in the finished product.

Some are widely known by the erudite world.

Then there are those solitary recluses which are

Unfortunately not even known in their own small hamlets.

It really is in essence matters not known or unknown —

It is the quality of the poet’s work itself that may be laudable!
